My book featured in Newsweek/Daily Beast article!
To my delight, Newsweek’s science editor Sharon Begley featured my book in her Daily Beast column! My book argues that parents worry about BPA in plastics and chemicals in food, but when it comes to children’s health the real toxin is their parents’ stress, because kids pick up on everything.
I thought journalists might be skeptical, but Sharon Begley confirmed my research, writing, “When parents are under emotional, financial, or other forms of stress, it can alter their children’s patterns of genetic activity at least through adolescence and perhaps longer. And since some of the altered genes shape brain development, the effects of parental stress might permanently wire themselves into children’s brains.”

Kids pick up on everything, and research shows that children can "catch" their parents' stress just like they catch a virus—soaking up the stress that pervades a household until their developing nervous systems reach "overload." Then kids act-out, or get sick.
