To Raise Great Kids, Focus on Your Marriage

May 12, 2008

Building a dependable friendship with your spouse takes the pressure off your kids because they don’t have to become your surrogate friend in an unhealthy codependence. It also sets a great example for them to emulate when they marry and start families. Dependable friendship comes from sharing your thoughts, feelings and dreams with your spouse. Couples who claim they don’t have time for each other may be in denial. They don’t have time for each other because they haven’t made it a priority. The more you invest in your marriage, the less time you’ll spend “putting out fires” with your kids and your career.
