David coached my wife Victoria and I through a high-risk pregnancy. It all came to a head that Sunday morning when my wife went unconscious after giving birth to a very premature baby, and the doctors told me they didn’t know how to stop my wife’s bleeding.
I was beside myself, sitting in the surgery waiting room with my head in my hands as Victoria’s parents paced the floor. When David arrived, he spoke to our family with a comforting voice, and his manner was relaxed. David taught us how to keep calm and focused, and I began to see our situation as manageable. It was as if a cloud of tension had lifted.
It was difficult for my wife’s parents and I to be excited about a premature baby who was in neonatal intensive care, with her mother in ICU. We sat for hours that day, in shock. David was the voice of reason during our emotional storm. He reminded us that we had a beautiful new little girl in the family, my wife was in great hands, and we had each other to lean on. We’re all fine now, but we were so glad to have David’s coaching during this, the most difficult moment of our lives. If I had to sum up what he gave us, he taught us how to maintain a thinking, resourceful mind in times of overwhelming stress.

Kids pick up on everything, and research shows that children can "catch" their parents' stress just like they catch a virus—soaking up the stress that pervades a household until their developing nervous systems reach "overload." Then kids act-out, or get sick.
